Hydrogen Therapy

I use Hydrogen Therapy daily, and I know that it contributes to my health, happiness, and well-being.

You know what antioxidants are, they neutralize ‘free radicals’, essentially toxic chemicals in our body. Damage caused by free radicals contribute to many chronic health problems such as cardiovascular and inflammatory disease, cataracts, and cancer. Antioxidants prevent free radical-induced tissue damage by preventing the formation of radicals, scavenging them, and by promoting their decomposition.

Instead of stuffing yourself with açaí berries or whatever this week’s miracle ‘antioxidant superfood’ trend is, cut straight to the chase – Molecular Hydrogen!

Hydrogen Therapy Benefits

The benefits of molecular hydrogen gas therapy include:

  • Improve cognitive function and focus
  • Reduce inflammation and pain
  • Promote cellular health
  • Increase energy levels
  • Have better skin health and tone
  • Improve sleeping patterns
  • Boost internal antioxidant levels
  • Enhance athletic performance and decrease recovery time
  • Support healthy weight management
  • Hydrate at the cellular level

Molecular hydrogen is the secret to advancing health and human potential.

Size

Molecular hydrogen is the smallest molecule and the only antioxidant that can access the mitochondria and cell nucleus under certain conditions. Unlike conventional, larger antioxidants, H₂ passes the cell membrane, so molecular hydrogen benefits are exerted immediately.

Selectivity

H₂ selectively targets only the most harmful free radicals without affecting useful free radicals that help maintain homeostasis. At times, common, non-selective antioxidants (Vitamin A, C, E, folic acid, etc.) can diminish the good free radicals that the body needs, thereby causing a potentially negative effect. H₂ does not.

Safe, Non-Toxic

Because its only byproduct is water, molecular hydrogen is 100% safe.

The Free Radical Theory of Aging

The Free Radical Theory of Aging holds that the damage free radicals do to our cells, particularly the oxidative stress that free radicals cause, is what causes our bodies to age. As we age, our internal defense system declines, allowing oxidative stress to accumulate and resulting in cell damage, disease and death.

When most of us think of hydrogen, we probably think of a potentially flammable gas that’s best given a wide berth. You might be surprised to learn that elemental hydrogen — H2 — is the latest superstar dietary supplement to take the world by storm. So, what are the health benefits of molecular hydrogen?

Mounting evidence shows that hydrogen — the most abundant element in the universe — may be highly beneficial for a wide range of health concerns. From limiting inflammation in the body to combatting the oxidative stress that is believed to promote aging to fighting the cell damage associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration and metabolic syndrome, supplemental hydrogen has shown great promise.

Oxidative Stress and ROS

To be clear, oxidative stress is a process that occurs naturally in the body on the cellular level. It’s a side effect of the metabolic processes that use oxygen to “burn” the fuel we need for energy. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are unstable molecules that can damage the molecules that make up our cells and tissues. Ordinarily, our bodies keep ROS in check through the activity of naturally occurring antioxidant molecules.

But sometimes — during periods of environmental stress, as a result of aging or due to poor diet — the production of ROS may outstrip the body’s capacity to neutralize them, resulting in oxidative stress. Research indicates that molecular hydrogen may serve as a powerful supplemental antioxidant that can help keep ROS in check.

A Small, but Mighty, Molecule

The same element that fuels the fusion reaction that powers our sun is also uniquely suited to serving multiple beneficial roles in the human body. Research shows that molecular hydrogen’s health benefits may include powerful antioxidant activity. Animal studies suggest it’s also an exceptionally effective anti-inflammatory substance, which the body uses to combat potentially damaging inflammation. At present, it remains unclear exactly how molecular hydrogen’s many health benefits are manifested in the body. But it appears to function as a potent antioxidant and, possibly, as a signaling molecule.

These discoveries are relatively recent. Pioneering research has been conducted primarily in Asia, where H2-enriched drinking water and hydrogen inhalation therapy are rapidly gaining in popularity.

Multiple Potential Benefits

There’s intriguing evidence to suggest, for instance, that inhaled molecular hydrogen may protect the brain and nervous system from neurological disorders linked to inflammation. Examples include cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke, neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia and neonatal brain disorders.

Animal research indicates that drinking hydrogen-enriched water can significantly curtail the development of arteriosclerosis among mice specifically bred to model human atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is an underlying cause of heart disease, which remains the No. 1 killer of men and women in the U.S. There’s also emerging evidence that ingestion of H2 may help thwart cancer. Such research is preliminary, but promising.
